Leonidas is translated to mean The Lions Son; John Noveske has certainly created a lion with his project Leonidas.
Noveske Riflework's project Leonidas is a 7.62 weapon system designed by operators for use in a CQB support role. This weapon is capable of battlefield recovery of linked 7.62x51 NATO machine gun ammunition, while performing with sub-minute accuracy using M-118 LR.
The 12.5 inch stainless steel barrel is a proprietary design, with 1 in 10 inch polygonal rifling. This rifling technique is a throwback to the earliest types of rifling. Polygonal barrels tend to have longer service lives because the reduction of the sharp edges of the land reduces erosion of the barrel. The polygonal rifling reduces gas leakage, bullet distortion and promotes higher velocity. Longer bore life and easier cleaning are the benefits of this rifling system. Accuracy is typically as good or better than conventional rifling. Maybe old Xerxes needs a demonstration of the Leonidas’s gyroscopic inertia!
Our Leonidas was built using an Armalite AR-10 frame and has a KX3 flash suppressor “ with fire breathing pig “ that is attached using 5/8x24 TPI. The folding BUIS or Back Up Iron Sights are from Troy Industries. The purpose is to allow the shooter the ability to accurately aim the rifle if the primary optic fails or the batteries die. Not to worry, the Lewis Machine & Tool Company’s SOPMOD tan buttstock assembly has plenty of watertight compartments for battery storage. The padded buttplate helps to reduce felt recoil while providing a no-slip surface. LMT is the sole provider of the SOPMOD buttstock to the US Special Ops Command, US Army, US Navy, US Airforce, US Marine Corps and other government agencies and bureaus.
Continuous top rails are sweet and John's use of the Superior Weapons Systems extruded and machined mil-std 1913 rails are no exception. This free float tube system has T numbers on all rails and the slots on the rail can be timed to the slots on the receiver which they are of course.
AR-10 is a registered trademark of Armalite Inc. of which Mark Westrom is the owner. Out of respect for the .308 Winchester cartridge and Eugene Stoner's enthusiasm and genius, Mr. Westrom has designed one of the finest rifles available today. The magazine selected by Mr. Westrom is the magazine designed by John C. Garand. This detachable box magazine used in the M-14 rifle and now by Armalite is without a doubt the best.
Two words, Molon Labe, a circumstantial participle a parataxis, are the unofficial motto of the United States Special Operations Command Central (SOCCENT). When asked to give up their weapons to live those determined Greeks responded “Come and take them!” or "Molon Labe".
In 480 BC King Leonidas of Sparta went to Thermopylae with 300 of his personal guard to battle 600,000. Those odds did not look promising. Too bad John and his project Leonidas weren’t there to help!
Noveske Rifleworks Leonidas is a 12.5 inch Short Barrel Rifle in .308 caliber that certainly does live up to the proclaimed embroidered statement, “Stops Jihad On Contact!” Order a rifle today to get this awesome one of a kind hat!
